  • Forest Clay is A New Field's first biomaterial. You'll be making it with all of our Forest Clay kits.

It’s a simple recipe designed to be easy for makers of all ages. Forage for pine cones or pine needles, add them to the mix in your kit and you'll have Forest Clay! It's a flexible fun material you can use to make all sorts of things.

When Forest Clay dries and hardens, it’s very tough but remains water soluble. You can help to make it water resistant by rubbing the end of a soy-wax candle (like the one provided in the kit!) over the surface of your creation. Either way, it's totally biodegradable and compostable.

The Forest Clay Freestyle kit will guide you through this process and includes Forest Clay mix, natural paint, some simple templates to get you started and some extra bits to help you make awesome products.

Alongside detailed instructions, all our kits contain our special Forest Clay mix, white natural paint pigment and a marble, candle and stick to complete your creations.

Explore and Ultimate kits contain special zero-plastic moulds to make top quality toys and products.

We don’t use plastic

The products you make with any A New Field Kit will be entirely natural. That means no plastic and no nasty chemicals. Done with your product? No problem! It will fully biodegrade and you can make as many more as you like without worrying about the environment.

Even better, everything supplied in A New Field Kits is zero plastic* too. We’ve worked with producers across Europe to ensure our packaging and supplies are biodegradable and free of unneccesary chemicals. Even the moulds in our Forest Clay Pro kit are formed from biomaterials themselves, meaning they’re fully biodegradable.

*the only plastic in our kit is the PLA zip lock on the mix bag. PLA is a fully biodegradable plant-based plastic made from corn starch. We made the difficult decision to include less than one gram per kit as it helps preserve your mix for longer, therefore wasting fewer materials over time. A difficult trade-off, but one we hope you agree we’ve got right.

What People Are Saying

β€œThe perfect marriage of science, magic and the great outdoors. I was surprised at how much the whole family enjoyed every step. The guides help make the process easy to follow and each section is short enough to retain attention. I can’t wait for the next kit.”

β€” Nina W, Lisbon

β€œThe Pro Kit is for adults too! I enjoy crafting and the Forest Clay Pro kit offered me a window into a new world of materials. The moulds gave me a fantastic quality and I was able to sand, wax and perfect my candle stackers so they now take pride of place on my dining table.”

β€” Kevin F, Norfolk

β€œNone of us could believe we made a material from things we found in the woods. The kids loved the sense they’d both found and created their own material. It was a great chance to talk about plastic use with them and they’re already exploring new ways to β€˜stay natural’. ”

β€” Kate P, Sheffield
