What is…?

  • Post-plastic is a term that describes a world after environmentally damaging plastics have been designed out of the manufacturing system. Plastics never biodegrade properly and are one of the world’s greatest environmental disasters. Increasingly it is possible to replicate plastic properties using natural, biodegradable materials. While A New Field will not solve the world’s post-plastic needs, we are using this platform to make the challenge real and fun for as many people as possible.

  • Foraging is the act of searching, identifying and collecting resources in the wild. Traditionally associated with food, A New Field are pioneering the notion of foraging for naturally abundant materials - things we can easily find and use to make stuff. Good examples are acorns, seaweed and shells.

  • Digital manufacturing is a catch-all term for a recent wave of machines that have become available, helping us to make things with precision and without the need of factories to do so. The most commonly recognised digital manufacturing tool is a 3D printer, but there are many others. ANF use some of these to help us make beautiful products from the materials we forage.
